Paralympians Return Home

Ireland's paralympians return from London with 16 medals, 8 of them gold. Ireland came 19th on the medal table a head of Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria and Sweden. Host Nation Great Britain took 3rd place on the medal board with 34 gold medals, behind Russia and China.

 

In athletics Jason Smyth took home two gold medals for the Men's 100m and 200m T13. Michael McKillop took gold for the Men's 1500m T37. Catherine O'Neill took home Silver in the Women's Discus Throw - F51/52/53, while Orla Barry got took bronze in the Women's Discus Throw - F57/58.

 

In Cycling Mark Rohan also took two gold medals for the Men's Individual H1 Road Race and the Time Trial. James Brown took bronze in the Men's Individual B Time Trial, while Catherine Walsh took bronze in the Women's Individual B Time Trial and also took home Silver in the Woman's Cycling Track.

 

In Equestrian sports Helen Kearney took silver in the Mixed Individual Championship Test - Grade 1a and bronze in the Freestyle Test - Grade 1a. Team Ireland took bronze at the Mixed Team Championship.

 

In swimming Darragh McDonald took gold in the Men's 400m Freestyle S6, as did Bethany Firth in the Women's 100m Backstroke - S14.
