Athletics Ireland Statement on Catriona Cuddihy Selection

Athletics Ireland (the Irish governing body of Athletics) has made a statement on the Olympic Council of Ireland's (OCI) decision to select Catriona Cuddihy for the Irish Women's 4x400M relay squad for London 2012. Athletics Ireland have said they respect the decision of the OCI. The statement goes on to say that the selection processes has been a learning curve for the organization.

Athletics Ireland's review of the preparation for London 2012 and the performance of Irish athletes will now also include a review of the selection and appeals process and will be looking for input from all involved.

Athletics Ireland CEO John Foley said: “We also have to acknowledge that the past three weeks has been enormously difficult for the athletes involved in this appeal process, their families, supporters and friends. At this point however there is a final decision as to selection and we believe that it is now in the interests of all, that we focus our attention on the Games themselves. We wish all of the athletes the best of luck in their efforts in London.”
