Sporting Action Saves RTÉ2
RTÉ2, after seeing its best audience share of the last 3 years, has seen its share drop back in August as the Olympics and GAA Championships came to an end. The channel had 10% share of the audience in August 2021. The post match analysis of the All Ireland Hurling Semi-Final was the most watch programme of the month with 887,800 on August 14th. RTÉ2 will hope to retain its summer time audience in September with continued coverage of the final of the GAA Football championship. Overall RTÉ held 27% of the audience, while Virgin Media Television retained 18%.
TG4 had an audience share of 2%.
RTÉ ONE saw a monthly decrease in audience of 2%, it had an audience share of 16%, down 11% from August last year.
RTÉ2 saw its share decrease 18% from last month, achieving 10% share, it was up by 148% from August 2020. This change largely due to coverage of sports.
RTÉ ONE +1 and RTÉjr had 1.19% and 0.34% respectively. RTÉ2 +1 had 0.29% in August.
Virgin Media one's audience share was 12% in August, an increase of 3% from July, and a 25% increase year on year.
Virgin Media TWO has a 3% share, up 8% from last month and down 19% from August 2020.
Meanwhile, Virgin Media THREE was at 3%, down 3% from August but up 66% from August 2020. Virgin Media one +1 had an audience share of 0.30%.
eirSport1 saw its audience decrease to 0.02% as it finishes up broadcasting, while Virgin Media Sport had 0.05%.
English channels had 53% share of the audience in August 2021.
