News of the general election and the cornavirus have seen both RTÉ ONE's and VMT ONE's audience share increase dramatically. RTÉ's total TV audience for Feburary 2020 was 29%,it was up 7% from January, and up 14% from February 2019. Virgin Media had an average audience of 18% an increase of 11% since January, but down 3% from February 2019.

Mary Lou Leads in Leaders Vote

The Dáil met on Thursday (20 Feb) following the General Election 2020. Seán Ó Fearghaíl retained the Ceann Comhairle position, winning the chair against Denis Naughten. Micheal Martin was then nominated by the Fianna Fáil party to become Taoiseach, he received 41 votes in total, with 4 independent votes, from Cathal Berry, Seán Canney, Noel Grealish and Micheal McNamara. Sinn Féin then nominated Mary Lou McDonald. She received the most votes of all 3 nominees on the day with 45 votes cast in her favour. The sitting Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, then received just 36 votes, one more than his parties 35 votes coming from Independent TD Seán Canney.

TG4 has decided to drop its usual repeat of classic episodes of their twice weekly soap in favour of BBC quiz shows. In a statement received by CCÉ TG4 said "Our policy in relation to repeat broadcasts of the early years of this very popular flagship drama series on TG4 has been to do so and assess the viewer response – taking care not to diminish their value by over-exposure."

Martin McDonagh's latest dark comedy stars Frances McDormand as Mildred Hayes a woman fighting for the local police to continue to investigated the horrific death of her only Daughter. She organizes to have three billboards just outside her town to advertise the Police Department's lack of progress in her case. Central to her complaint against the Police is Sheriff Bill Willoughby, played by Woody Harrelson. The film also stars Sam Rockwell as a violent and inept police Officer Jason Dixon.

All Ireland Draw's In Viewers

The All Ireland Football clash against Dublin and Kerry ended in a Draw and drew a significant high audience for the end of the summer and RTÉ2 with 801,000 adult viewers. Top the top ten chart. This was follow by post match anaysis getting 637,000 viewers. The Rose of Tralee also brought in viewers for RTÉ One as the Autumn Seasons start. It had 472,000 adult viewers for its final night, taking up 3 of the top slots.

Hurling Final Takes 699,000 viewers

RTÉ2 coverage of the All Ireland Hurling Final was watching by 699,000 viewers, on Sunday. Coverage of the game took up three of the top 5 places with Post Match analysis getting 497,000 viewers, RTÉ ONE's Up For The Match was watched by 277,000 viewers. Reeling In The Years took 3rd and 4th place with 287,000 and 286,000 viewers respectively. Virgin Media one's Coronation Street got into tenth place with 218,000 viewers, it's coverage of the UEFA Super Cup, (Chelsea V Liverpool) came in 8th place with 234,000 viewers, RTÉ2's coverage of the All Ireland Camogie semi-final had 101,000 viewers.
