Summer TV Struggles without Sport

With a worldwide lockdown in place live TV has struggled this summer without the normal summer sports. 2020 was due to bring us the Euros and the Olympic Games, both postponed. TV news continues to hold its audiences as production of key soaps were halted in March. RTÉ's total TV audience for June 2020 was 25%, it was down 7% from May, and down 1% from June 2019. Virgin Media had an average audience of 15% an decrease of 3% since May, down down 21% from June 2019.


TG4 had an audience share of 2%, while eir Sport 1 had 0.09%.

RTÉ ONE saw a monthly slid of 10%, it had an audience share of 20%, up 29% from this time last year, helped by RTÉ's coverage of the corona-virus.

RTÉ2 was up 3% since last month, with little or no news on the channel it had a 4% share, it was down by 55% from June 2019, the hemorrhage of viewers due to its lack of normal summer time sports coverage.

RTÉ ONE +1 and RTÉjr had 1.22% and 0.31% respectively. RTÉ2 +1 had 0.19% in June 2020.

Virgin Media one had an audience share of 10%, a 6% decrease from May, and a 12% decrease from June 2019.

Virgin Media TWO continued to hold on to a 3% share, up 1% from last month. It was down 42% from June 2019, its hemorrhage due to the postponement of Love Island.

Meanwhile, Virgin Media THREE stayed at 1.5%, up 4% from May and down 19% from June 2019. Virgin Media one +1 had an audience share of 0.32%.

While Virgin Media Sport had an audience share of 0.14%.

English channels had 58% share of the audience.
