RTÉ News Fails to Help Ratings

RTÉ average share of the audience was down 7% month-on-month, on an annual basis it was down 2% in July 2020. Virgin Media was up 10% month-on-month, but down 13% year-on-year. Both services are limited by the number of new home-produced shows available to them, with RTÉ News taking an earlier break in mid-July, resulting in the cutting of their main-evening news to 30 minuntes, usually this happens in August.


TG4 had an audience share of 2%, while eir Sport 1 had 0.8%.

RTÉ ONE saw a monthly drop of 10%, it had an audience share of 18%, up 20% from this time last year, helped by RTÉ's coverage of the corona-virus.

RTÉ2 was up 1% since last month, with little or no news on the channel it had a 4% share, it was down by 47% from July 2019, the hemorrhage of viewers due to its lack of normal summer time sports coverage.

RTÉ ONE +1 and RTÉjr had 1.21% and 0.39% respectively. RTÉ2 +1 had 0.19% in July 2020.

Virgin Media one had an audience share of 11%, a 6% increase from June, and a 3% increase from July 2019.

Virgin Media TWO has a 4% share, down 1% from last month. It was down 45% from Julu 2019, its hemorrhage due to the postponement of Love Island.

Meanwhile, Virgin Media THREE was at 2%, up 10% from June and up 2% from July 2019. Virgin Media one +1 had an audience share of 0.34%.

While Virgin Media Sport had an audience share of 0.08%.

English channels had 59% share of the audience in July 2020.
