Referendum Day: The Fiscal Treaty
Worries that there would a low turn out due to the good weather were allayed as the rain started to fall, but a new worry of a low turnout due to the rain began to be realized. According to the National Broadcaster, RTÉ, turnout seems to have been low throughout the country because of the weather.
A Yes vote is expected. There have been some media reports to suggest that a secret exit poll by the Government puts the YES vote at 60% a similar figure that had been suggest through out all of the polls carried out by polling agencies in the run up to the referendum. This will be a blow to the NO side, however they can reassure themselves that the final vote will not be known until later today. Counting of votes begins at 9am.
