32% Drop in Covid Cases Across Ireland in March
March saw a 32% drop in the number of reported COVID-19 case across Ireland. Northern Ireland saw the biggest decrease of 43%, while the republic saw a drop of 28% for the month. The last day of March saw a total of 848 new COVID-19 cases across the Island. The HSE and the Department of health announced 761. In Northern Ireland 107 cases were detected. In total there have been 353,996 COVID cases since the pandemic began in 2020.
Republic of Ireland
The headline figures show a total of 761 new cases as of 12 midnight on the 31st of March, with 11 deaths reported. Overall 4,705 COVID related deaths have been announced.
The HSE and Department of Health announced full hospital figures for March 30th. The total number admitted to hospital with COVID-19 was 13,593 cases, a daily increase of 27.
A total of 8 Health Care Workers were diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 30th. A total of 28,101 health care workers contracted COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
March continued to see a significant drop in cases from February, 16,327 people were detected to have COVID a drop of 28%. In total 198 covid related deaths were reported, this compares to February's figure of 814.
Northern Ireland
The Northern Irish Health Department announced 107 cases. They reported no COVID related deaths, 2,115 have died in the north since the pandemic began.
4 people were admitted to hospital on the 31st of March. The total numbers admitted to hospital since the pandemic began is 9,195.
March continued to see a significant drop in cases from February, 4,765 people were detected to have COVID a drop of 43%. In total 58 covid related deaths were reported, this compares to February's figure of 196. 320 people were admitted to hospital a drop of 459 from February.
