133,757 COVID Case Across Ireland in January
The Republic of Ireland saw its monthly number of COVID cases rise by 401% from December 2020. Northern Ireland saw its monthly number rise by 37%. This marks the worst month for cases across the Island. Yesterday (31 January 2021) a total of 1,376 COVID-19 cases were detected across the Island of Ireland. The HSE and the Department of health announced 1,062. In Northern Ireland 314 cases were detected. 301,827 COVID cases have been detected since the pandemic began in 2020, 44% of all cases occurring in the first month of 2021.
Republic of Ireland
The headline figures show a total of 1,062 new cases as of 12 midnight on the 31th of January, with 10 deaths reported. Overall 3,317 COVID related deaths have been announced.
The HSE and Department of Health announced full hospital figures for January 30th. The total number admitted to hospital with COVID-19 was 10,949 cases, UP 76.
A total of 182 Health Care Workers were diagnosed with COVID-19 on January 30th. A total of 24,125 health care workers contracted COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
A total of 1,515 Health Care Workers tested positive for COVID for the weekending the 30th of January, this represents 17% of the total COVID cases for that week. 646 people were admitted to hospital during that week, down 610 from the previous week.
January is the worst month on record for COVID cases with 53% of all cases since the pandemic began. In total 1,051 COVID related deaths were reported, this compares to April's figure of 1,180.
Northern Ireland
The Northern Irish Health Department announced 314 cases. They report 11 COVID related deaths, 1,861 have died in the north since the pandemic began.
5 people were admitted to hospital on the 31st of January. The total numbers admitted to hospital since the pandemic began is 8,021.
