RTÉ Drop DAB Broadcasting
RTÉ have announced that they will cease the transmission of Digital Audio Broadcasting on the 31st of March, 2021. As part of RTÉ's 2020 to 2024 strategic review they had planned to also drop their Digital Radio Stations, however RTÉ failed to put a submission into the Department of Media to have the stations dropped, those station will remain broadcasting on TV, on Saorview and Virgin Media. This comes 15 months after the publication of their strategic review.
RTÉ Strategy 2024 had stated "RTÉ will close the Digital Audio Broadcasting network, as well as RTÉ's digital radio stations (RTÉ 2XM, RTÉ Pulse, RTÉ Gold, RTÉjr Radio & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra).
RTÉ has since decided to change its decision on Digital Radio and did not put forward a plan to remove the digital radio stations to the Department of Media as required under the Broadcasting Act 2009, Section 103.
This comes after RTÉ's decision not to sell the RTÉ Guide. RTÉ also back tracked on their decision to close their Limerick studio.
RTÉ are still in discussions for the NCH to take control of the NSO, following October's budget announcement that the orchestra would move to the NCH in 2021.
