Census 2011 Results Announced
The Census is set to be explored over the coming year. This week the CSO (Central Statistics Office) announced some of the highlights from the Census. It shows the population of the Republic of Ireland in April 2011 was 4,588,252, a population increase of 348,404. In 1951 the population was just under 3 million.
Since 2006 there were 365,000 births, 140,000 deaths and 225,000 people migrated to Ireland.
Below a table of county populations, we have included the 6 counties of Northern Ireland for completeness, the results of the UK census will be announced this summer.
