Monthly Unemployment at 6.4%

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July 2017 was 6.4%, up from 6.2% in June 2017 and down from 8.1% in July 2016. The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 141,100 in July 2017, up from 139,900 when compared to the June 2017 figure and a decrease of 35,800 when compared to July 2016.

In July 2017 the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.2% for males, up from 7.1% in June 2017 and down from 9.3% in July 2016.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for females in July 2017 was 5.4%, unchanged from June 2017 and down from 6.6% in July 2016.

The seasonally adjusted number of males unemployed in July 2017 was 86,700. This is an increase of 700 when compared to the June 2017 figure of 86,000. In July 2017 the seasonally adjusted number of females unemployed was 54,500, an increase of 500 when compared to June 2017.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for persons aged 15-24 years (youth unemployment rate) was 12.3% in July 2017, an increase from 12.0% in June 2017.
