February TV
6 Nations helped TV3 but fails to bring in new viewers as RTE 2's viewers are snapped up by TV3. RTÉ still remain ahead of TV3. TV3's Ireland's Got Talent hasn't massively increased audiences for TV3 but it is often helped by 6 nation matches and as Ireland head for a Grand Slam the march for audiences is on in March. Month on month RTÉ saw a 3% increase across all channels, while TV3 saw a 12% increase from its January audience. Overall Irish TV channels had a 47.04% share of the audience with the rest tuning to English based channels in February.
As to be expected RTÉ ONE's Dancing With The Stars remains an important part of RTÉ ONE schedule, it delivered for RTÉ last year and while down this year it has helped to retain RTÉ ONE's audience share. RTÉ ONE retained 19.26% of the audience, but saw a 5% drop from this time last year, during the first run of DWTS.
With the loss of 6 nations to TV3 RTÉ2 saw a yearly drop of 32%, with an increase of 12% from January. RTÉ2 had a audience of 5.2% in February. Helped in part by The Young Offenders.
Overall RTÉ had an audience share of 26.05%, an increase of 3% from January and a decrease of 11% from this time last year.
Meanwhile TV3 was in fighting form with its exclusive rights to the 6 nations. It was up massively from January by 28% and up by 37% from this time last year, TV3 had an audience share of 13.56%.
TV3's 3e channel was down 25% from last month and 5% from last year getting an audience share of 2.7%. be3 was down 2% from last year but up 10% from last month. be3 had an audience share of 2.37%
Overall TV3 had 19.03% share of the audience a 24% increase from 2017 and a 12% increase from January.
TG4 had 1.83%, up 6% month on month and down 10% year on year.
eirSport1 had 0.13% share of the audience.
