Monthly Unemployment August

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.3% in August. July's figure stood at 6.4%, while 2016's figure stood at 6.3%. This represents a slight monthly drop of 0.1% and a drop of -1.6% on an yearly basis. The number of people unemployed was 173,000.

In August 2017 the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.1% for males, unchanged from July 2017 and down from 9.0% in August 2016.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for females in August 2017 was 5.2%, down from 5.4% in July 2017 and down from 6.5% in August 2016.

The seasonally adjusted number of males unemployed in August 2017 was 86,500, unchanged from July 2017. In August 2017 the seasonally adjusted number of females unemployed was 52,700, a decrease of 1,600 when compared to July 2017.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for persons aged 15-24 years (youth unemployment rate) was 12.7% in August 2017, an increase from 12.3% in July 2017.
