New Look TV3 News

We take a look back at the past nearly 20 years of TV3 news. Since its first outing at 6pm on the 21st September 1998 to its move to 5:30 back in 1999.

TV3 began broadcasting 19 years ago this month. Grainne Seoige and Alan Cantwell were set to present the first news broadcast of the new service. The set was pretty nice for the late 1990s with browns and blues. Grainne and Alan were joined by Trevor Walsh on Sport and Lorraine Keane on Entertainment.

Here's the six o'clock news from the 23th of September 1998.

In late 1998 with viewers staying with RTÉ's Six One News TV3 took the decision to start a 5:30 news, AKA First Edition
