The counties of Kildare, Laois and Offaly in the Irish midlands are to have movement restrictions imposed. Residents in these counties are being told to only travel within their own county when possible. The Irish government have imposed these restrictions as over the last 14 days 292 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the three counties. The measures are to being from midnight tonight (Friday, 7th of August 2020) for at least a fortnight.

Offaly County Council have announced their details of their Arts Grant for 2014. Applications are sought by the Council for groups and individuals working in the area of the arts in County Offaly. The projects should be aimed at the community, while also providing professional arts and cultural experiences. Closing date for applications is Friday, 14th February 2014.

On the morning of Tuesday the 7th January 2014 the remains of Christy Daly were discovered in a drain at Bog Road, Killbride, Clara, Co. Offaly. The discovery came during a search carried out by Gardaí after concerns were made surrounding the whereabouts of Mr. Daly (47). The area was sealed off for full technical examination and the State Pathologist was notified. A post mortem was carried at Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore. The results of the post mortem have indicated that Mr. Daly was murdered.

The government have announced that they are to begin recruiting new members to An Garda Síochána. The news was announced by the Minister for Justice and Defence, Alan Shatter, T.D., at the opening of the recruitment campaign by An Garda Síochána. The new recruits will enter college in mid-2014, with the begining of a progressive new training course, which will provide them with a BA in Applied Policing.
