Body Found in Clara, Co. Offaly

On the morning of Tuesday the 7th January 2014 the remains of Christy Daly were discovered in a drain at Bog Road, Killbride, Clara, Co. Offaly. The discovery came during a search carried out by Gardaí after concerns were made surrounding the whereabouts of Mr. Daly (47). The area was sealed off for full technical examination and the State Pathologist was notified. A post mortem was carried at Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore. The results of the post mortem have indicated that Mr. Daly was murdered.

The Gardaí have said that the results of the post mortem will not be made public for operational reasons.

The family of the deceased have all been informed of Mr. Daly's death and are currently in contact with a Garda Family Liaison Officer.

Gardaí are appealing to any person or persons who may have seen any suspicious or unusual activity at Bog Road, Killbride Lane, Clara, County Offaly, in the days leading up to Sunday 29th December 2014 and in particular the days since then, to come forward.

This is an isolated area with limited access. A number of people have come forward with valuable information and Gardaí would encourage others with any information to do like wise.

A caravan and two cars were burnt out at this location. Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or who may have witnessed the burning of these vehicles to come forward. All information received will be treated in the strictest confidence.
