hdRTÉ ONE HD and TG4 HD for E-Vision

E-Vision (Eircom's television division) has announced 17 new channels to begin broadcasting on their service. RTÉ ONE and TG4 will join RTÉ TWO in HD, while 12 new channels have been added to the E-Vision Essential Pack (Comedy Central +1, Channel 4 +1, E4+1, More 4+1, Film4+1, Bloomberg, Euronews, God.TV, EWTN, QVC, TRTÉ, CÙLA4). E-Vision's Sky Movie Pack has added Sky Movies Greats, Sky Movies Crime and Thriller, Sky Movies Drama and Romance, Sky Movies Sci-Fi and Horror and Sky Movies Select.

hdBAI Report warns Saorview Future is not Assured

A report by Oliver & Ohlbaum puts the final nail into the coffin of Irish Broadcasting as its findings have been published by the BAI. The report was commissioned by the BAI after the failed 2008 Commerical Digital Terrestrial TV licensing round, which saw big players Communicorp, UPC, RTÉ, TV3 and Eircom all pull out of negotiations with RTÉ's 2RN. The report was formally given to the BAI in August 2013 and has just been published today. Saorview was launched in 2011 with a tiny number of channels in comparison to its European counterparts.

The BBC has announced that they are to launch 5 new free-to-air channels across all platforms. Five of their existing non-HD terrestrial services are going HD, BBC Three, BBC Four, BBC News, CBeebies and CBBC. Those channels will also provide their programmes in HD on their on-demand service, the BBC iPlayer. The channels are launching just in time for Christmas. The services launch tomorrow the 10/12/2013.
