The Roscommon and Longford Divisional Drugs Unit of An Garda Síochána seized €21,000 worth of cocaine in two separate search operations. The searches were carried out in Longford town. A house in the town was searched on Sunday 23rd of August, 2020. A second address was searched on Tuesday, 25th of August, 2020. The drugs have been sent for analysis. A man in his 30s was arrested and released without charge, a file has been send to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Gardaí, working with the Revenue\'s Customs service, have seized 22kilos of Heroin. Two men have been arrested and are currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station. The operation was part of an ongoing joint investigations targeting the importation of illegal drugs.
Gardaí in Limerick have arrested two male suspects following there inquiries into a fatal hit and run on the Hyde Road in Limerick on Monday, July 1st, 2019. A jeep hit a pedestrian at approximately 4:40am. A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene and Gardaí carried out technical examinations. A black Mitsubishi Shogun failed to stay at the scene of the accident.
The Commissioner of An Garda Siochana has reside in the wake of controversies surrounding her leadership of the force. Norin O'Sullivan became the Garda Commissioner following the resignation of her predecessor in 2014. She had been Assistant Commissioner prior to her appointment and the scandals at the top of the Police Force continued to stagnated during her leadership of the force. Gardaí have release a man they have questioned in releation to a murder in Drogheda, Co. Louth. A cold case from 1987 was being investigated. A double murder occured at the Rossnaree Hotel in Drogheda in 1987. The man was released without charge, he had been arrested in Dublin and detained at Drogheda Garda Station under Section 30 - Offences Against the State Act 1939.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and An Garda Síochána have launched their National "Slow Down" Day. As the June Bank Holiday Approaches the RSA and the Gardaí have called on drivers to reduce their speed. The June Bank Holiday weekend is the worst weekend for Road Traffic Accidents.
