The Golden Globe nominees have been announced. Daisy EdgarJones has been nominated for her role in Normal People in the Best Actress Category. Brendan Gleeson is nominated for his portrayal of President Trump in the mini-serial The Comey Rule in the Best Supporting Actor Category. Normal People has been nominated as Best Limited TV Series. Irish film Wolfwalkers has been nominated for the award of Best Animated Film. David Fincher\'s Mank, the telling of the story behind the writing of Citizen Kane, is the most nominated film, while Aaron Sorkin\'s The Trial of the Chicago 7 received 5 nominations. The Crown and Schitt\'s Creek have each taken 5 nominations in the TV categories.
The Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA), which was established in 1999, has come under fire for the lack of women nominated in a number of categories. Indeed just 3 women were nominated for best actress, with 5 men nominated for best actor. The lack of Irish Film as far as IFTA is concered is also the issue with two films in the best film category co-productions which are not set in Ireland, and yes I agree this is a very strenous arguement that I am putting forward.
The RTɠChoice Music Awards have announced their nominees for best Irish Album of 2017. Best Song nominations will be announced on Wednesday the 31st of January. The Dublin Film Critics have announced their film picks from 2017. They have selected Dunkirk as Best Film, Christopher Nolan picked up Best Director for Dunkirk, Best Irish Feature went to Sanctuary, The Farthest picked up best Feature Documentary. Best actor went to James Franco for The Disaster Artist and Best Actress went to Natalie Portman for Jackie and Isabelle Huppert for Elle. Get Out received best Screenplay by Jordan Peele. Irish nominees include Daniel Day Lewis for Phantom Thread, Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird, The Breadwinner and Caitriona Balfe for Outlander. The movies selected are Call Me by Your Name, Dunkirk, The Post, The Shape of Water, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Disaster Artist, Get Out, The Greatest Showman, I, Tonya, Lady Bird. The awards will take place on Janurary 7th from Beverly Hills, California. The host is Seth Meyers.
The Man Booker Awards have announced their longlist for their annual awards. Two Irish writers made it to the final. Mike McCormack is longlisted for his novel Solar Bones, while previous Irish winner Sebastian Barry has been longlisted for his novel Days Without End.
