Banvill's Benjamin Black Enlists Byrne
John Banville's pseudonym Benjamin Black brings Quirke to the small screen with the help of British broadcaster BBC and Irish producers Tyrone Productions and Element Pictures. Gabriel Byrne will play the role of Quirke the chief pathologist in the Dublin city morgue. Three 90 minute episodes are to be filmed in Dublin later this year, based on the novels Christine Falls, The Silver Swan and Elegy for April.
John Baniville is delighted with the choice of Gabriel Byrne as the title character Quirke and the choice of writers for the series, Andrew Davies and Conor McPherson.
Quirke is co-produced for the BBC by BBC Productions, Tyrone Productions and Element Pictures, with the support of An Bord Scannán Na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board.
