RTÉ Digital Aims to utilise RTÉ content

RTÉ Publishing and RTÉ Libraries and Archive have been replaced by RTÉ Digital. RTÉ Digital will be responsible for leading RTÉ's digital strategy. RTÉ Digital is to insure that RTÉ's content is available to audiences where and when they want it.

The new division will use the "collective digital expertise" of RTÉ to provide content and services to the Irish and international audiences. They will aim to provide services across a wide range of devices, platforms and markets.

RTÉ Digital will continue to manage and develop rte.ie, RTÉ Player and RTÉ News Now.

"Audiences are changing dramatically with the advent of new, more affordable and more sophisticated technologies," says Múirne Laffan, Managing Director, RTÉ Digital.

RTÉ Digital's priorities are to meet the needs of audiences now and in the future. This will happen through the use of innovation and technology, social media engagement and being active in the Digital Economy. RTÉ hope to develop partnerships with industry-leading companies and organizations.

RTÉ hope to develop a new stream of revenue through new e-commerce and merchandising strategy. RTÉ hope to develop this through premium on-demand services, digital merchandising and new mobile services.

RTÉ Digital will also takeover running of the RTÉ Libraries and Archives. The public will be able to access the wealth of video and audio archives through digital means.
