IFTA - Press Release

IFTA Television Awards 2015

IFTA announced their 23 categories and the nominations for each category. Comedy and Soap have been merged for a number of the categories due possibly to the low number of dramas produced by the industry, however both comedy and soap are given their own categories with Fair City facing off against newcomer Red Rock, though IFTA failed to give a nod to Ros Na Run, which failed to make the cut at this year’s awards. Irish Pictorial Weekly, Moone Boy, Mrs Browns Boys and The Savage Eye are all up for best comedy, with Damo and Ivor getting a nomination the acting categories.

Sky have two programmes up for awards Moone Boy and 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy. RTÉ lead the way with 36 nominations, but Red Rock gets the most nominations for TV3 across 6 categories. UTV Ireland is nominated for Ireland Live, while BBC Northern Ireland are given nods in the news and current affairs categories. TG4 are nominated in the Live Event category, Reality/Constructed Factual, Young People’s and Irish Language categories.

TV3 received a nomination for Ireland AM in the Entertainment Category, we can only image this is due to their broadcast of the event. Though Two Tube is also nominated!

Well done and good luck to the nominees. Begrudgery you say, begrudgery my arse! Perhaps it just spreading these awards over 2 events each year doesn't help when you have so little choice.
