RTÉ 2 Launch New Look and New Schedule 2014

RTÉ 2 launch their Autumn/Winter Schedule in Dublin on Thursday. A new look for the service was also launch, this is the 7th rebranding of the service since its inception in 1978. RTÉ 2's aim is to be the voice of young Ireland aiming its commissions at the 15 to 35 year old age group. Reality, Lifestyle, OnDemand and Comedy are core to the new season on RTÉ 2.

Reality

The control of RTÉ 2, Bill Malone, is keen to develop real reality rather than reality TV competitions that we have become accustomed too. Connected looks at the lives of six different women living in Ireland today, the series follows them over the course of 20 episodes twice a week, the series is a reality soap though it looks less Fade St and more Fly-on-the-wall documentary. Drunk explores the pit falls of alcohol. It explores the demon drink and its effects on the lives of a group of young adults.

Documentary

RTÉ 2 continues with its successful Reality Bites set of documentaries with six new episodes in the series. From The Proposal on the Rose of Tralee to the Guardians of the City the series explores everything from the afterlife to living the life with episodes such as Vogue Does the Afterlife, Tongue Tied, Clubland Behind the scenes at the Wright Venue and Silk Roads to Shanghai Using bicycles.

RTÉ 2 has also spun out documentary serials from the last season of Reality Bites with the UFC The Notorious documentary and Meet the McDonough’s both getting a series.

Other documentary series include What Women Want season 2, Norah's Traveller Academy, Bressie's Teenage Kicks and Full Frontal.

Comedy

RTÉ 2 continues to try out new and emerging comedy. Damo & Ivor return for a second series, Holding Out For A Hero explores Irish warriors and heroes, The Savage Eye returns for what is to be expected the final series of the successful skit show, Republic of Telly continues and The Fear is back lurking to catch you out.

Entertainment

#Trending is a new six-part fashion show hosted by Darren Kennedy and is expected to air pre-watershed. Ed Sheeran and The Best of Electric Picnic with both air on the channel.

Pilots and Formats

RTÉ 2 over the last number of years have air a number of new formats through their Format Farm initiative. This continues with new one of programmes such as Exiles, The Unemployables, You Choose You Lose? and Then Comes Marriage.

Film

RTÉ 2 are to air a series of Irish film each Saturday Night starting with The Hardy Bucks Movie and including The Guard, Adam and Paul, When Harvey Met Bob, The Boxer and What Richard Did. These are presented in association with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film board.

Imports

RTÉ 2 continues to be the home of US imports new and returning series include:-

Vikings, Outlander, Scorpion, How to Get Away with Murder, Homeland, Resurrection, Mad Men, CSI 14, Big Bang Theory, Revenge, Grey’s Anatomy, Marvel Agents of SHIELD, New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Masters of Sex, Brooklyn 999, New Girl and Two Broke Girls.
