As part of on going investigations The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) with the assistance of officials from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) are conducting planned searches at locations in Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, Westmeath and Kilkenny.

Marie Tierney was murdered between 21st October 1984 to 21st December 1984. Her body was found on the 21st of December by a man out waking on the Bleach Road, Kilkenny in a ditch. She was just 34 years old when she died, she was married with 2 children aged 12 and 13. She and her husband ran a petrol station at Clintstown, Co Kilkenny. Her body was found 7.8km from her home. Her car was found 11km from her home, while she was found 2km from her abandoned car.

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland have signed to contracts with radio stations covering Limerick and Kilkenny City. Limerick's Live 95FM has retained its licence for Limerick City and County, while new community radio station Community Radio Kilkenny City have also signed a contract with the BAI. The contracts start from October 24th 2017.

With the exit of Phil Hogan to Brussels, Carlow-Kilkenny is the 5th by-election since the general election 2011. By-elections take place when a member of the Dail (TD) vacates their seat. In this instance the seat was left vacant by the promotion of the Environment Minister to an EU commissioner. There are 9 candidates in the running for the seat. 3 women and 6 men. Bobby Aylward, Fianna Fáil, David Fitzgeral, Fine Gael, Kathleen Funchion, Sinn Féin, Breda Gardner, Independent, Patrick McKee, Renua Ireland, Conor MacLiam, Anti-Austerity Alliance, Malcolm Noonan, Green Party, Willie Quinn, Labour Party and Adrienne Wallace, People Before Profit.

There are 4 electoral areas in Kilkenny. Castlecomer (6 Seats), Kilkenny City-East (6 Seats), Kilkenny City-West (6 Seats) and Piltown (6 Seats).

The Arts Office at Waterford County Council in association with the ArtLinks Partners in Carlow, Kilkenny and Wexford are now taking applications for the ArtLinks Bursary Awards 2014. This is the 8th year of the bursary, which supports artists in Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford.
