The Kite Runner
The friendship between two boys growing up in Afghanistan - wealthy Amir and Hassan, the son of a servant - is shattered, seemingly for ever, when Amir fails to protect Hassan from a brutal attack and later drives him away to conceal his shame. After years living in exile as a writer in America, an adult Amir returns to his home country to atone for his childhood sins by finding his friend's missing son.
