Eliza Lynch Queen of Paraguay
Documentary recounting the life of Eliza Lynch, the Cork-born woman who is hailed in Paraguay as a national heroine. Born in 1835, she emigrated to France with her family aged 10 and became part of Paris's salon society during the 1850s, where she met Francisco Solano Lopez - the son of the Paraguayan dictator. She became pregnant with his child so they went to live in his native country, and when he gained the presidency, she became the de facto first lady, even though they never married.
