TG4 Capital Project to Deliver content across Multiple Platforms
The Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR) have announced that it is to fund a new capital project for TG4. The project was launched by the Minister (Pat Rabbitte, T.D.) at TG4 Headquarters in Baile na hAbhann. The project receive €690,000 from DCENR. The Minister met with the board of TG4 and visited the state of the art studios in the Gaeltach region of Co. Galway.
The Minister stated that “this project demonstrates TG4’s ability to keep pace with broadcast and content Technology Developments at a time of exponential change.”
The new project will put TG4 in a competitive position to maximise its content across all platforms, with full HD (High Definition) at each stage of production. It will also allow TG4 to adapt to any new transmission or distribution standards that arise in the future.
It is hoped that the creation of new and innovative Irish language learning apps will help the Government's 20-Year Irish Language Strategy.
In 2011 DCENR provided €2.7million in capital funding for TG4 HD, the service has yet to be launched on Saorview (Ireland's free-to-air digital terrestrial platform along with other pubcasters RTÉ ONE HD and RTÉ TWO HD). TG4 HD is available on cable platform UPC.
