Glenalbyn Swimming Pool Closes due to Faulty Roof

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) have instructed that Glenalbyn Swimming Pool be closed due to public safety concerns. DLRCC are the owners of the complex, which is operated by DLR Leisure Services Ltd. Structural Engineers Horgan Lynch submitted a report to DLRCC. The Council's town Capital Projects Engineering Team examined the report and advised that DLRCC should close the pool with immediate effect.

The report detailed significant structural defects with the pool's roof. The defects put the public and staff at adverse risk of a potentially serious incident at the complex.

The problem was first noticed during a routine inspection of the facility in October 2013, the report was provided to the Council on 11th December 2013. The report says that the roof is in danger of failing and potentially collapsing completely.

The council will now examine the report in detail and will then make a decision on the report, until then the pool will remain closed.

DLR Leisure also operate the Council's swimming pools in Meadowbrook, Monkstown and Loughlinstown.
