Seventh Death in Buncrana Home

HSE North West has announced the sad passing of patient at the Nazareth Nursing Home in Buncrana, Co. Donegal. The patient's death is not related to the current influenza outbreak in the home, according to medical professionals.

Update: A Seventh victim of the influence virus at the home died on Sunday. 7 patients are currently being monitored. 5 of the seven are showing signs of improvement. The HSE has confirmed that their has been no new cases of the virus in patients since the 4th of the April.

Surveillance of the home by the HSE continues, medical doctors, nurses and scientists are all work together to manage and monitor the situation.

The flu is often a mild infection, but it can be serious among elderly people and it is a common cause of death in older people.

To reduce infection remember to: -

  1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing and coughing.
  2. Dispose of the tissue as soon as possible.
  3. Wash your hands with soap and water as soon as you can afterwards.

If you are visiting or working in a nursing home make sure your vaccinations are up to date.
