BBC Commission Documentary on Cinema Shootings

The BBC have commissioned a documentary surrounding the Colorado cinema shootings. Titled "The Batman Shootings" it will be the first documentary on the shootings, which happen just 3 weeks ago on the 20th July, 2012. Twelve people died in an attack by gunman James Holmes, who later identified himself as "The Joker". The attack occurred at a mid-night showing of the 3rd Christopher Nolan Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises".

Amal Fashanu will travel to Aurora, Colorado and speaks to survivors of the tragedy. Amal finds out how Holmes tried to join a gun club just weeks before the shootings.

He speaks with Americans on the right to bear arms under the American Constitution. He also asks weather or not the Death Penalty should be handed down in the case against James Holmes. The state of Colorado has only used the Death Penalty once since 1977 and is considered a de-facto abolitionist state since 2007.

The programme will air on BBC Three on August 23, 2012.
