CSO Small Area Population

The Central Statistics Office of Ireland (CSO) have released their latest instalment into their study of Census 2011. The Small Area Population Statistics or SAPS outlines around 18,500 small pockets of population in the country ranging from 80 to 100 households.

Deirdre Cullen, Senior Statistician at the CSO: “For the first time ever, Census 2011 data is available for approximately 18,500 Small Areas across the country – each of which consists of a small pocket of the population (approximately 80-100 households on average) and so provides the most detailed layer of population data ever available for Ireland."

The results also come in an interactive map on the CSO website called SAPMAP, which is also available from the All Ireland Research Observatory (AIRO) at NUI Maynooth.
