2,916 Covid Cases in Augusts
Full hospital figures for August 2020 have been released, it shows a total of 2,916 COVID cases were diagnosed in the month, up significantly from June (418) and July (635) cases. 228 Health care workers tested positive for COVID19, remaining at similar levels to that of June (229) and July (228), but Health care workers only took up 8% of the total cases announced in August. So far health care worker account for 30% of all cases. Just 52 people were admitted to hospital in August according to official figures.
The spike in cases over the month saw the curtailing of Ireland's COVID-19 recovery programme and restrictions in the midlands. The government saw themselves in hot water with the resignations of Ministers, EU Commissioners and the Chair of the tourism board. However, the month also saw the re-opening of schools.
