RTÉ2's Newsfeed Dropped

If you hadn't already noticed RTÉ (Ireland's National Public Service Broadcaster) has dropped its only adult news service on its second channel RTÉ2. The Children's News programme News2Day continues on the channel from September to June each year but is currently on a summer break from RTÉ 2's TRTÉ strand.

RTÉ 2's Newsfeed was introduced as part of a major overhaul of RTÉ's second channel 2014. The programme replaced RTÉ News on 2. The programme aired on RTÉ2 at 7pm and 8pm and was presented by former News2Day presenter Carla O’Brien.

RTÉ News on 2 effectively had been reduced to a 10 minute news bulletin in 2013, and in 2014 the bulletin moved exclusively to RTÉ News Now. Unlike other RTÉ News programming RTÉ News Now failed to simulcast Newsfeed as RTÉ2.

A spokesperson for RTÉ stated today "Newsfeed has been off air since the start of this year. News programming on RTÉ 2 is currently being reviewed as part of a wider review of the channel.".

You'd have to wonder why 4 minutes of news would need to be dropped while RTÉ make further changes to the ailing RTÉ2.
