An Post and EirGrid Appointments

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Mr Denis Naughten TD, has recently appointed two new directors, Ms Carol Bolger and Ms Deirdre Burns, to the Board of An Post and four new directors, Mr John Trethowan, Ms Lynne Crowther, Ms Theresa Donaldson and Ms Eileen Maher to the Board of EirGrid.

Speaking on the appointment of Ms Carol Bolger and Ms Deirdre Burns to the Board of An Post, Minister Naughten said "I am delighted to appoint both Ms Bolger and Ms Burns to the Board of An Post. I believe that these appointments will add greatly to the expertise available to the Board as it meets the challenges of the changing environment in which it operates". The appointments are for a period of five years effective from 11 May 2017.

On the appointments to the Board of EirGrid, Minister Naughten said "I believe that the range and breadth of experience of the four appointees will ensure that the Board of EirGrid has access to key expertise and competence as it fulfils its important strategic mandate". The appointments are for a period of five years effective from 2 June 2017.

All appointees were selected following a competitive selection process run by the Public Appointments Service (PAS).

There are now 4 women on the board of Eirgrid and 6 men, while An Post has 5 women board members and 10 men board members.

Deirdre Burns

Deirdre Burns is non-Executive Director of Wembar Pharmacy. She was previously retail director and Omni-Channel Strategy Director of EE Ltd in the UK.

Carol Bolger

Carol Bolger is Founder Director of Carthena Consulting Ltd, 2014 – Date. She has been a Board Member of the Health and Safety Authority since 2014 and was previously interim head of business management in RBS London

John Trethowan

John Trethowan is Chairperson of Progressive Building Society since January 2014. He is also head of Credit Review in the Republic of Ireland since 2009.

Lynne Crowther

Lynne Crowther has been a board member of the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland since January 2015. She is owner of the communications consultancy company, Lynne Crowther Consulting, since 2013.

Theresa Donaldson

Theresa Donaldson is Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council since June 2014. She is currently a board member of the Northern Ireland Chief Executives Forum.

Eileen Maher

Eileen Maher is Managing Director of Ireland Warande since February 2015. She was Director of Strategy and External Affairs in Vodafone from May 2013 to November 2014. In February 2017, she was appointed to the Board of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland for a five year term.
