Birr Assault 15 Jan 2017

Gardaí in County are investigating a serious assault that occurred in Birr. The assault occured at McAuley Drive in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning (15 January 2017).

The incident occured just after 1am. A man in his mid 20's was taken to Midlan Regional Hospital in Tullamore where is condition is described as critical following an apparent stabbing.

Another man in his early 20's was arrested close to the scene and is currently detained at Birr Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene was preserved and technically examined.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information, particularly those who reside at or were in the McAuley Drive, Townsend Street, New Road and Pound Street areas between 12.30am and 1.30am this morning, Sunday 15th January who may have seen or heard anything unusual, are asked to contact them at Birr Garda station on 057 9169710, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
