TV3 announced changes today at an event in the Shelbourne hotel. TV3 have a fight on their hands, with just 8 months before UTV Ireland arrives TV3 announced some of their plans for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, bring them into 2016. TV3 announced their full summer schedule, which includes The Great Irish Bake Off and where insisting that TV3 aren't just another opt-out service. TV3 expect to double their factual programming output. With production of their first soap after 18 years on the air to start in October.

The loss of Coronation Street and Emmerdale is a big blow to TV3. TV3 have made a decision to replace both shows with a home grown soap. Even if the series only last one year, it is a welcome change. Fair City and Ros Na Run will both have home grown competition. It can only up the standards in soap, however new soaps haven't always gone to plan, and older ones got lost in the amount of soaps provided. British soap took a turn for its worst in the 2000s.
