An Garda Siochana have apologised to Joanne Hayes for their conduct during the investigation into the murder of a baby in County Kerry in 1984. The baby was discovered by a farmer on a beach in Caherciveen. The investigation lead detectives to Joanne Hayes who had given birth to a baby prior to the discovery but had stated she had not had a baby when she arrived at hospital with problems consistent with having given birth. Joanne Hayes and her family met with Detectives and admitted that she had had a baby but that baby was a still birth and was buried on the family farm, the Detectives refused to believe her and attempted to convict her of the murder of the baby found on the beach in Caherciveen and later suggested that she had had twins with two different men.
