RTÉ Scores With Euro 2012

Ireland has added value to the Euro 2012 games for the Irish National Broadcaster RTÉ. Ireland's opening match was watch by an average of 1.2 million people, making it the most watch sporting event since 1994 (World Cup 1994). RTÉ Two gained a respectable 68% share of the total viewing audience over the two and a half hours of coverage given to the opening match at Euro 2012. This included pre and post match analysis and Aprés Match.

Irish fans may have been disappointed with the teams opening game of the tournament, which is taking place in Poland and the Ukraine. Ireland was defeated 3 1 by Croatia, putting the team in the bottom of group C. The other teams in the group, Italy and Spain, drew 1 all. Ireland are to face Spain on Thursday night and will be hoping for an excellent performance, while Croatia go up against Italy.

All 31 games are show in Ireland by RTÉ but coverage has competition from ITV Sports on UTV and BBC sports on BBC Northern Ireland. The games are also available in High Definition on RTÉ Two HD.

The first week of the Tournament saw RTÉ Two gain 3 of the top 10 most watch programmes in Ireland for the week ending 10/6/2012.
